The Master Gun Barrett MRAD 338 Sound Effects library is recorded using a large array of various microphone configurations, we recorded shots from several distances in an open shooting range in the Nevada Desert.

Weapon Information

The Barrett Multi-Role Adaptive Design (MRAD) is a modular precision rifle system developed by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing for military and law enforcement applications. The .338 Lapua Magnum variant represents the platform’s long-range capability, designed to deliver precision fire at extended distances while maintaining the system’s signature adaptability.

Weighing 14.5 lbs unloaded with an overall length of 49.4 inches, the MRAD features a monolithic upper receiver machined from 7000-series aluminum with a full-length Picatinny rail system. The rifle’s folding stock reduces overall width for transport while providing a rigid, stable platform when deployed.

Key features include: User-changeable barrel system allowing conversion between multiple calibers and lengths, Fully adjustable match-grade trigger module, Ambidextrous controls including paddle-style magazine release and swappable thumb safety, M-LOK compatible handguard with mounting points at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, 10-round double-stack magazine capacity.

The Barrett MRAD has gained widespread military adoption, serving with U.S. Special Operations Command, the Israel Defense Forces, Norwegian Armed Forces, and New Zealand military forces. Its modular design philosophy and proven accuracy have made it a preferred choice for precision rifle applications where adaptability and long-range performance are essential.

Raw Recordings

Our raw shots features a total of 28 channels including 13 Stereo and 2 mono sources. All of our close and mid spaced pair Microphone options can be used as two independent mono microphones. The right side of every spaced pair will have more Mech than its left side counterpart.

Every single gun has been recorded using the same gain settings on the same recorders, and we have level matched each microphone option between the same calibers so your 50ft microphones will be the same or similar across all libraries that share the same calibers. This makes mixing large amounts of weapons easier as the loudness and character of each gun is predictable.

Our foley features a total of 4 audio channels with 1 Stereo and 2 mono sources, including the Sanken CO-100k which captures frequencies above 100kHz for extreme pitch shifting workflows.

Designed Mixes

We included 3 sets of designed mixes:

Building Blocks:
Our Building Blocks mixes are lightly designed assets which are specifically created to give you a jump start in designing your own gun shots if you don’t want to work with the raw assets.

Modern Mixes:
Inspired by some of our favourite games we’ve crafted an aggressive mix which not only includes a composit mix but also includes the individual layers (Shot, Mech, Tail, Atmo, & Trigger Pull).

Realistic Mixes:
We have also included 3 realistic mixes designed by our recordist so that you can hear exactly what this gun sounded like from the shooters prospective.

Suppressed Recordings

In addition to the unsuppressed shot recordings, we’ve also sampled the Barrett MRAD 338 with a suppressor attachment. The suppressed Barrett MRAD 338 was sampled right after the unsuppressed recordings using the exact same microphone setup as the unsuppressed version. This provides you a seamless transition between the unsuppressed and the suppressed recordings.

The suppressed recordings also have the added benefit of muting the shot layers which helps bring out the intricate details of the mechanism (mech layers).

Because adding a suppressor to the firearm increases the weapons muzzle velocity, the fire rate of the suppressed weapon is slightly faster than its unsuppressed counterpart.

Why Deliver 32-Bit Float Shots?

There are several advantages in using 32Bit float recordings. One of which is having greater separation from the explosion of the gun and the mech. Because of this, you’ll be able to isolate the mech from each gun and bring out each guns unique characteristics.

32Bit Float files require a slightly different workflow than you might be used to. Other gun sample libraries that use 24 Bit recordings already come pre-compressed/clipped and will be louder than our libraries. when you are working with 32 Bit Float gun recordings you’ll need to compress/clip the recordings in order to get the same loudness.

Metadata

One of the most powerful features included in the Master Gun library is its extensive metadata and tagging. Every single field has been filled out. Every library is compatible with all major sound library management software including Sound Miner, Baeshead, Soundly, etc.

To take advantage of all the metadata features we do recommend using Sound Miner.
